16-year-old New York boy may have been stabbed by another teen in romantic feud over girlfriend: cops

On Wednesday, police officials said a 16-year-old boy who was stabbed in the stomach outside his high school may have been assaulted by a romantic rival in a fight over a girlfriend.

The young victim was seriously injured as he left the International School for the Humanities in the Bronx with his girlfriend around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, NYPD Chief James Essig said at a press briefing.

“He is in critical condition. So it’s not a coincidence. He [was] purposefully,” Essig told reporters.

“We believe that the perpetrator and the victim may fight over the same girl,” he explained.

Essig noted that the attacker, who remained at large on Wednesday, allegedly met with the victim’s girlfriend, who also fled the scene.

“Witnesses who know these two people say they have been arguing about this for the past few months,” he said.

Police at the scene of the stabbing on Tuesday afternoon.

Several police officers crowded around the sidewalk, marked with tape from the crime scene.
Police are still looking for video of the incident.

“I wouldn’t say he’s… a fellow student, right now,” Essig said of the possible culprit.

Police on Tuesday said they were looking for five men who fled the scene of the attack on foot.

Investigators are still looking for video of the incident, Essig said.
