World War II bomb suddenly explodes in small town – drone footage captures massive explosion

An unexploded World War II bomb suddenly exploded in a small English town on Friday as the military was working to defuse it.

The Great Yarmouth contractor discovered the bomb while working on a river crossing, according to the New York Post.

Three days later, Norfolk police confirmed that there had been an “unplanned” explosion.

In a Twitter statement, the police said: “An unexploded bomb in [Great Yarmouth] exploded earlier during work on its neutralization. Our drone captured this moment. We can confirm that no one was hurt.”

“It was a painstakingly long process, but public safety and the safety of the people involved in the operation were the focus of decision making,” Assistant Police Chief Nick Davison said. “It was the last stage of a delicate operation that caused great upheaval in the city.”

Above all, this incident should remind us how blessed America is to have escaped the worst devastation that engulfed so many other countries during World War II.

With the exception of Pearl Harbor, the US has never been bombed in a war, so most of our cities and infrastructure have been left intact.

Can you imagine living in London during the Blitz and being bombed night after night?

We must also bear in mind that there are still thousands of unexploded bombs from the war all over Europe, which means that Europeans live with the real possibility of finding 80-year-old explosives in their backyard. This is something we Americans are lucky to avoid.

But this incident should also give us a greater appreciation for our veterans and those currently on duty.

Imagine having to deal with similar explosions on the battlefield day after day. If you can, you may begin to understand why so many veterans develop mental disorders such as post-traumatic stress disorder after returning home from war.

But you can also see why we go to great lengths to honor our veterans with parades and celebrations.

We honor our veterans because they are willing to sacrifice their safety and security so our nation can be free.

We ask our military personnel to risk their lives and expose themselves to dangers we cannot even imagine so that our nation can prosper and our people can be safe.

Incidents like the one at Great Yarmouth should remind us of the real danger our men and women in uniform face every day and should awaken in us a greater respect for them.
