Last year, a jury found Hoskins guilty of the girl’s death. He was accused of strangling his six-month-old daughter Riana in October 2018, authorities said. When Hoskins was charged, officials said the girl remained alive in a medically induced coma and was deaf and blind due to her injuries. He was charged in January 2020 after the girl died, more than a year after she was hospitalized with her injuries.

Prosecutors sought a conviction on the charge of first-degree murder, but defense attorney Mark Plants argued that Hoskins was only guilty of manslaughter.
