Police say Garland officers shot suspect after trying to stop traffic and giving chase

GARLAND, Texas. The investigation comes after police said officers shot and killed a suspect during a shootout on Monday.

Two Garland officers in a patrol car were involved in chasing the suspect after attempting to stop traffic around 5:30 p.m., according to police.

Police said the suspect stopped in the Glenhaven Drive area, got out of the car and pulled out a gun. According to police, the suspect fired several shots at law enforcement officers.

According to police, two police officers got out of the car and returned fire.

According to police, the suspect received at least one blow and was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The suspect has not yet been identified.

None of the officers were injured during the incident.

Two officers were placed on administrative leave in accordance with department policy during the investigation.
