Weather causes urgent need for blood donation in North Texas

Carter BloodCare and the American Red Cross are in desperate need of blood donations to replenish local supplies.

Both are calling on Texans to help North Texas patients awaiting blood transfusions.

Carter said a winter storm forced him to close blood donation centers and delay donations.

“For three days, Carter BloodCare donor centers were closed and blood draws were canceled due to weather conditions. The cancellation of only mobile blood draws meant that more than 2,000 planned blood units could not be collected, directly impacting more than 6,000 local patients in need of care. transfusion,” the organization said in a statement.

The most demanded blood group now is O-negative, as are platelets.

Restaurants reopen after freeze

People who donate before February 28 will receive a free quarter zip pullover for their donation while supplies last.
