Virginia parents outraged by dismissal of anti-socialist board of education candidate

Virginia Democrats blocked a conservative appointee from serving on the state board of education to silence opposing views, parents in the Old Dominion state told Fox News.

“Her expulsion is a punch in the gut for all of us parents who are concerned about the lack of transparency, the lack of choice, and the hoarding of our tax dollars being used to fund district-sanctioned social activism that is squeezing out academics in the classroom,” Fairfax County Parent. This was reported by Brooke Corbett Fox News.

“Voting to expel her because she doesn’t meet the board of directors’ requirements as a public school parent is as ridiculous as saying that parents shouldn’t tell schools what to teach when they object to an abusive, non-academic socialist learning,” she continued.

Governor Glenn Youngkin, who has campaigned for parental rights in schools, appointed Suparna Datta to the Virginia Board of Education in July. But the Indian immigrant and parent advocate for Fairfax County lost her confirmation in the Virginia Senate Tuesday night in a party line vote.

“Unfortunately, it’s all too common,” Fight for Schools executive Ian Pryor told Fox News. “Our schools and education system have been so infiltrated by angry, awake, know-it-all activists that it will take a generation to undo the damage.”

“That says a lot about the far left and their so-called fairness, diversity and inclusion,” said Pryor, a parent from Virginia. “They really advocate uniformity of viewpoints, and if that includes diversity, then they can send a virtue signal, as if that’s more important to them than finding people who will keep up with their morally bankrupt ideas.”

Dutta’s removal came a week after she argued with another board member over whether public schools should present socialism as “incompatible with democracy.” The parental rights advocate urged public school curricula to focus on “traditional American values” at a previous board meeting, which led the Virginia grassroots progressive coalition to label her a “far-right extremist” as she opposed her approval.

“I thought people appreciated diversity. Whether it is a variety of thoughts, a variety of points of view, or a variety of any characteristics? Dutta told Fox News ahead of the vote.

Pryor, a campaigner for school choice and parenting rights, said he’s not surprised that Virginia Democrats have mobilized to “splash the appointment of a highly qualified and respected parent advocate like Ms. Datta.” Her varied viewpoints and experiences would be too complex for their fragile minds.” .”

“Virginia Democrats are so hungry for power and adherence to their narrow point of view that they will do everything possible to suppress voices of dissent,” Pryor said.

Corbett said many Fairfax County parents were “outraged” after Senate Democrats justified their actions by calling Dutta unqualified.

“I see her as a public school parent,” Corbett said. “She is a caring mother, like me, who is in the trenches, knows what is going on, what is hiding.”

Youngkin also praised Datta’s qualifications after the vote.

“She is a mother and advocate for parental rights, she is an immigrant and advocate for the rights of Asian Americans, she is an engineer and advocate for STEM in education,” the statement said. “Not only is she qualified, she represents parental involvement in our schools and we need her voice on our Board of Education.”

Bonnie Mishrall, another parent, told Fox News that Dutta was slandered by Senate Democrats.

“The senators lied about the mother who volunteered to help the children because she is not on their side of the political spectrum,” Mishrall said.

And another Virginia parent, Dave Rich, asked, “Didn’t these radical fanatics learn anything from running for governor?”

He told Fox News that Youngkin won the gubernatorial election because his opponent “sought to silence parents’ voices about their children’s education.”

Despite her removal from the Board of Education, Datta said she would continue to stand up for parental rights.

“Only in America can the common man be heard,” Datta said on Tuesday. “I will continue to fight for the education of our children.”
