Jason Landry: Volunteers walk 13+ miles in search of missing Texas student

More than two years have passed, and Jason Landry, the Texas State University student who disappeared in December 2020, is still missing.

Landry’s wrecked car was found abandoned in Luling, Texas, and has not been seen or heard from since.

“There are people like me who want to help the Landry family. So we all came together to find and find Jason, to bring Jason home,” says Katherine Shelman, founder of the Jason Landry Search Group.

The group says two years is too long.

“Every time we come here, we learn something new, learn new techniques. We are learning to do it better. We are a group of people from all over Texas, all walks of life, all ages.” says Cindy Lay, one of the leaders of the Jason Landry search team.

This weekend, a search party of volunteers traveled over 13 miles in search of Jason’s footprints. A group in boots brought search engines and dogs to the ground to locate human remains.

“If one of the dogs shows interest in a certain area, they contact us by radio, and we will gather a group of team members, go out in search. We will search in the area. we get a little closer, it gives us more and more hope and more energy. It revives us. And we won’t stop again,” Schellman says.

Katherine and Cindy have been looking for Jason ever since he disappeared.

“We came together because God brought us, each of us together. There is no doubt about this. God brought us together. There are a lot of good people here,” Lay says.

The GoFundMe page for Jason Landry’s search raised additional funds to help with the search, and in November, the group was able to double the reward.

“All the people who came together and donated to this GoFundMe, who shared this, GoFundMe. They are part of it. Each of these people,” Lay says.

Anyone with information on Jason Landry’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Texas Attorney General at 512-936-0742.
