Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes bought a one-way ticket to Mexico last year after she was accused of fraud.

Elizabeth Holmes, founder of disgraced biotech firm Theranos, bought a one-way ticket to Mexico shortly after being found guilty of fraud last January, the lawsuit filed Thursday said.

Holmes was found guilty on four counts of lying to investors on January 3, 2022. Shortly thereafter, according to federal prosecutors in the lawsuit, Holmes bought a flight to Mexico departing on January 26, 2022, with no scheduled return flight. The US government became aware of the booking on January 23, 2022.

“It was only after the government picked up this unauthorized flight with a defense lawyer that the trip was cancelled,” prosecutors say.

Former Theranos CEO Elizabeth Holmes was sentenced on Friday to 11.25 years in prison on three counts of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit fraud.
