Rihanna triumphantly returns to the stage – and is pregnant – for the Super Bowl halftime show

Rihanna’s triumphant return to the stage did not disappoint – and after much speculation on social media, a rep for the pop star confirmed that she performed at the Super Bowl halftime while pregnant with her second child.

She opened the show suspended in the air on a floating platform with “B **** Better Have My Money”. and sang a few of her other mega hits, such as “We Found Love”, “Rude Boy” and “Work” as a handful of dancers kept hovering above her on moving boards.

The bump, which was visible in the tight outfit she wore under a baggy red jumpsuit during the show, sparked a flurry of social media speculation that she might be pregnant again.

The performance was the 34-year-old’s first live performance in seven years and the first since she became the mother of her child with rapper A$AP Rocky nine months ago.

Details about when the singer will be born have not yet been disclosed.

Deciding which songs to include was the biggest challenge, said Rihanna, who has won nine Grammys.

“That was the hardest, most difficult part. Deciding how to make the most of 13 minutes but also celebrate is what this show is going to be,” she said before the show.

Her jam-packed Super Bowl halftime show featured hit after hit—12, to be exact—from her impressive collection.

There were no instant costume changes, scene changes, or guest appearances (with the exception of baby #2) that were constant in other Super Bowl halftimes.

The theme and color scheme remained the same throughout the performance, with red lights flooding the long stage.

Fireworks erupted and lights blazed in the grandstand as she took to the air alone and sang “Diamond” with the chorus “shine bright like a diamond” as the set closed.

While most artists use the Super Bowl halftime performance to launch a new album, Rihanna has been adamant that her 2016 follow-up to ‘Anti-‘ isn’t finished yet.

She didn’t even perform “Lift Me Up”, her contribution to the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever After soundtrack, which is currently nominated for an Oscar.

Rihanna joins the list of notable artists who have played during the Super Bowl halftime show including Beyoncé, Madonna, Coldplay, Katy Perry, U2, Lady Gaga, Michael Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, Shakira and The Weeknd. Last year, hip-hop was marked by the performances of Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar.

The singer previously refused to perform during the 2019 show’s halftime out of solidarity with Colin Kaepernick. But she said the time and circumstances were right for her this time. Her friend and mentor Jay-Z Roc Nation also partnered with the NFL on the halftime show.

Apple Music replaced Pepsi this year, which has sponsored the show for the past 10 years. Terms were not announced, but analysts expected the league to receive at least $50 million a year for the rights.
