The people of Frisco are looking for solutions to solve problems with a proposed theme park by Universal Studios.

FRISCO, TX (CBSDFW.COM) – The residents of Frisco, dissatisfied with the Universal Studios theme park project, presented the city with an idea that, in their opinion, will solve many of their problems.

This was discussed on Tuesday evening at a special joint meeting of the city council and the planning and zoning commission.

Phil Evitt didn’t mince words when he decided to talk to city officials about Universal Studios being their new neighbor.

“We don’t want this project,” he said. “It will destroy our neighborhood.”

The Frisco husband and father were among the first to move to the Cob Hill area 16 years ago.

Now, at the thought of a children’s theme park on this undeveloped land to the north, with about 20,000 visitors on weekends, he wonders: why here?

“I think there are much better places in the city,” Evitt said. “I don’t see why this should be placed right next to a residential area.”

Several Frisco residents have voted in favor of the 90-plus-acre project, but the overwhelming majority at a special city council meeting is still opposed.

“This project will change Frisco forever,” said one resident.

They lobbied for the formation of a citizens’ advisory committee to look into possible traffic problems.

There is also growing support for a public park surrounding the theme park that will make it more private and offer something for adults without children.

“We have asked the city to insist on a wide single path around the park that all Frisco residents can safely use,” said another resident.

“It’s a no-go zone for us,” Evitt said. “If we live in our area, we can’t walk past without paying and enjoying the space, so we can also have a green area around it that we can enjoy.”

Worried homeowners may only have two weeks to stop the project.

Some city leaders said off-screen that it would take me more than backyard complaints to keep them from being approved during the March 7th vote.
