The oldest terminal of John F. Kennedy Airport is closed forever. So what is taking its place?

The New York relic is undergoing a major change.

The oldest terminal at John F. Kennedy International Airport closes for good this weekend after 60 years of operation.

Terminal 2 opened as early as 1962 when TWA had its own terminal at the airport.

The Port Authority noted the terminal’s last flights on Friday morning – the last inbound flights to use the terminal will arrive before the weekend closes.

Terminal 2 joins its neighbors (Terminals 1 and 3, the latter closed in 2014), making way for the new Terminal 1, expected to open in 2026.

In late 2022, officials began construction on a new, state-of-the-art terminal, part of an $18 billion airport renovation project.

The soon-to-close terminal was also the last remnant of what used to be Idlewild Airport, which housed Northwest, Braniff and Northeast airlines.
