The National Park Service retweets again and again with humorous advice on how to avoid a bear attack.

The National Park Service (NPS) sparked a Twitter exchange after it posted a humorous bear attack warning on Tuesday urging park visitors not to abandon their friends if something happens to them.

“If you meet a bear, never push a slower friend…even if you feel the friendship has run its course,” NPS tweeted.

“Seeing a bear in the wild is a special treat for any visitor to the national park. While this is an exciting moment, it is important to remember that bears in national parks are wild and can be dangerous,” the NPS added.

The NPS went on to warn that as spring arrives and the snow begins to melt, many bears are becoming more active.

The NPS also links to a document detailing safety tips on how to avoid potential bear attacks in the wild.

The tweet, which has amassed about 5.4 million views as of Wednesday, generated hundreds of comments, some of which were responded to by a verified NPS Twitter account.

“Check the friendship before you head out into the woods,” NPS told one user who asked what to do if he’s a slow friend.

“Okay, but what if the bear looks very hungry? Don’t they deserve a little snack as a treat?” another user asked, to which NPS responded, “Do you consider yourself the faster or slower of the two friends?”

In response to a user who asked if it was okay to push a friend in front of a bear, NPS wrote: “Friendships are special, but they don’t happen by accident. It takes effort and trust to build a lasting friendship. Good luck.”
