The major border town is on the brink of collapse due to Biden’s immigration policies, according to a local official.

A major border city is on the verge of collapse as President Biden’s influx of migrants overwhelms food banks and hospitals and threatens food security, a Yuma spokesman told Fox News.

“Policy needs to be changed when you see an unprecedented number of people crossing the border that even exceeds what we have seen under any of the other presidents in the last 30 years,” Yuma County Chief Jonathan Lines told Fox News. “And they’re coming because they said Biden told them to come in, that we have an open border.”

“It will only get worse with Biden’s policies,” Lines said. “He needs to reevaluate.”

About 5 million migrants have crossed the southern border of the United States since Biden took office, according to the Customs and Border Protection Service. Saw Yuma Sector Border Patrol 171% increase in border crossings with migrants in the period from 2021 to 2022.

Meanwhile, 1.2 million illegal migrants have fled border control since Biden took office, CBP sources told Fox News Sunday.

“The problem we’re seeing right now is that there’s a couple of big waves coming up,” Yuma resident and fifth-generation farmer Hank Ausa told Fox News. “Yuma can’t take it. This will reboot the system.”

El Paso, Texas, another border city, has declared a state of emergency as thousands of migrants camped on the streets during freezing temperatures in December. Many migrant shelters were overcrowded, so the city used the local airport as a temporary shelter.

Lines, Auza, and another Yuma farmer, Alex Muller, shared concerns, starting with fear of food security, since agricultural production makes up a large part of the city’s economy.

“Our fields are monitored, inspected and tested for various pathogens,” Muller said. “You can’t let people walk in the field.”

Aouza said Yuma’s fields, which produce 93% of the country’s leafy greens during the winter months, are facing a large influx of migrants, risking crop damage due to foodborne illness. He also said that many residents cannot get into the city’s only hospital.

“People had a hard time getting into the hospital because the hospital was overflowing with illegal immigrants,” Auza told Fox News.

In January, Biden made his first border trip to El Paso, Texas and unveiled border security measures, including Section 42 expulsions for some nationalities. While this was a step in the right direction, Biden needs to introduce stricter immigration policies to address of all border issues in various areas, Lines told Fox News.

Lines said Biden administration officials need to visit Yuma to see the specific issues their community is facing.

“I have invited them several times and would like to invite them again right now,” Lines said. “Please come and see for yourself.”
