Tagboard: A look at North Texas storms through a Twitter lens

NORTH TEXAS (CBSNewsTexas.com) — Temperatures soared into the 80s Thursday as heavy hail, rain and damaging winds swept through North Texas.

While the aforementioned weather patterns were the main threat, tornadoes were a possibility as supercell storms developed.

In addition to a few supercells, a squall band is rapidly moving east along the cold front. It is expected to affect Metroplex mostly between 5pm and 8pm, but the threat won’t end until around 10pm or 11pm as the storms move east.

If a tornado occurs in your forest, knowing where to go in your area is of decisive importance.

If you’re at home, stay away from windows and head to the center room on the lowest floor – the basement is best, but not always an option in North Texas. Cover yourself with a blanket, pillow, and mattress to protect your entire body, especially your head.

You should also avoid taking cover where there are heavy objects directly above you, such as refrigerators or pianos. For more protection, the CDC recommends crawling under a heavy table or workbench.

If you live in an apartment, get to know your neighbors in the stairwell or downstairs hallways.
