Search continues for suspect who killed Arlington’s father in a carjacking attempt

The Arlington area remains in suspense as police search for new security footage to help them track down the killer.

Investigators are calling a senseless murder what happened early Tuesday morning in the 1400 block of Prentice Street.

A carjacking suspect fatally shot Ali Ismail, 36, a husband and father of six, who had just driven into his driveway after returning from work.

CONNECTED: Police say a father of 6 is killed in Arlington by suspects who were trying to break into cars.

On Wednesday, police declined to be interviewed, saying they were working diligently to identify the shooter.

A department spokeswoman spoke to reporters at the scene as detectives gathered evidence.

“They actually went door to door to interview anyone in the area who had any security footage,” said Arlington police officer Courtney White.

Ismail came home only after 5 am.

Witnesses reported that prior to the shooting, two carjacking suspects were tugging at the doorknobs of cars on surveillance footage in the area.

Investigators said one of the men was standing in Ismail’s driveway when he drove in, causing the suspect to open fire on the car without saying a word.

Ismail was struck down and killed.

Neighbors said Ismail’s wife, now expecting her seventh child, heard screaming after she made the horrifying discovery.

Police said at least one Ring camera from the home caught footage of a man wearing a hoodie running through the area after the shooting.

“We are going to patrol the area carefully, but then again, we are still residents to be vigilant,” White added. “And if you see anything out of the ordinary, don’t contact anyone, just give us a call with a good description.”
