San Marcos City Council Appoints New City Manager

The San Marcos City Council has appointed Stephanie Reyes as the next City Manager of the City of San Marcos.

It was a unanimous vote, Council member Sol Gonzalez was absent from the meeting.

Reyes is a San Marcos native who served as interim city manager last year following the retirement of Bert Lumbreras.

Reyes begins his official role today.

“Stefani’s work as Interim City Manager over the past year has shown the value she brings to the city of San Marcos and her continued commitment to this community,” said San Marcos Mayor Jane Hewson. “I am confident that she is the right person to oversee the organization of the city of San Marcos and that her leadership will continue to have a positive impact on our community for years to come.”

Reyes has served the city of San Marcos in various capacities for the past 22 years.

In December 2019, she was appointed Assistant City Manager. Prior to assuming this position, she held the positions of chief of staff, assistant director of personnel, and assistant city manager.

Reyes is also active in local organizations including Leadership San Marcos and Community Action.

San Marcos is my home. I look forward to continuing the progress we’ve seen over the past year as we prioritize improving communication and collaboration between our organization and the community we serve.”
