San Diego Museum of Art Brings Back Popular Bloom Bash Party & Art Alive Event | Floral interpretations of famous works of art at the show from March 31 to April 2

The San Diego Museum of Art’s 42nd annual event returns from March 31 to April 2, showcasing floral designers’ interpretations of renowned works of art from the museum’s permanent collection in exquisite floral displays. The long-awaited exhibition begins with the Bloom Bash, which many call the “Met Gala of San Diego”.

Art Alive, a long-awaited San Diego spring tradition, is the museum’s signature fundraising event that supports educational, outreach programs and special exhibitions. The celebration will feature around 100 floral interpretations of artwork throughout the museum, created by local florist designers, who will fill the galleries with a brilliant crescendo of color and fragrance.

The theme of this year’s Art Alive is “Modern Women”, inspired by the exhibition of the same name, showcasing artwork from monumental women in the art world, including Sonia Delaunay, Françoise Gilot and key abstract expressionists Lee Krasner and Elaine de Kooning. In addition to the exhibition, Art Alive 2023 features highly talented women as mainstream artists, including Amanda Vituki, Laurie Shapiro and Natalie Gill. The Art Alive Bloom Bash launch extravaganza returns on Friday, March 31st. The signature celebration is expanding to Plaza de Panama at Balboa Park to accommodate a growing list of guests and offer additional outdoor activities. The opening celebration will feature food and drink from over 30 local San Diego restaurants, live music, a Ferris wheel, and after-hours visits to the Art Alive flower show. The Bloom Bash, referred to by some as the “Met Gala of San Diego,” is one of the city’s premier annual events.

The 2023 Art Alive Flower Show will take place on Friday, March 31 from 12:00 to 17:00 and from 10:00 to 18:00 on Saturday, April 1 and Sunday, April 2. General admission is free for members, $40 for non-members, $5 for youth. for children from 7 to 17 years old and free of charge for youth under 6 years old. Temporary tickets are required to enter. Returning to popular demand on social media, the museum is also once again featuring large-scale pop-up flower installations from Native Poppy at four unexpected partner locations across the city during the weekend leading up to Art Alive.
