Police fatally shoot armed man in Coney Island
Police shot and killed a gunman who fired at them in Brooklyn on Thursday night, law enforcement sources said.
The shooting occurred after officers responded to West 36th Street and Neptune Avenue in Coney Island, where the suspect had been firing off rounds in front of a bodega at about 10:15 p.m., police sources said.
When police arrived, the gunman opened fire on the officers, hitting a police cruiser at least twice, sources said.
Police yelled at the suspect to put his gun down, according to sources. When he refused, they fired back, fatally striking him.
It’s not clear if any police officers were injured.
After the shooting, a large crowd gathered at the scene and could be seen confronting and yelling at multiple NYPD officers as they tried to disperse them, video shows.
