Residents of the Bay Area carefully monitor the soil during the last rain

Soil in the Bay Area hit peak saturation earlier this year, and many people fear it won’t take much rain to trigger another wave of problems.

On Alvarado Road in the Oakland Hills a few weeks ago, during a severe storm, a hillside slid down. The owner of the property has been working on strengthening it for the past week.

A house in Berkeley Hills was hit by a landslide the same night as the landslide on Alvarado Street. Zaituna College, which owns the collapsed hillside, has hired civil engineers to reinforce it and improve drainage.

In Orinda, where an entire house slid off its foundation and rolled down a hillside, another house remains with a red tag, and residents are paying close attention to conditions.

Jody Hernandez of NBC Bay Area has more in the video report above.
