Man Faces Homicide Charges After Fatal Crash Involving Florida Trooper and Semitruck

A tragic incident unfolded in St. Lucie County, Florida, as a man was arrested on Friday for allegedly causing a fatal crash that resulted in the death of a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) trooper and a semitruck driver. Law enforcement officials have identified the suspect as Michael Anthony Addison, a 30-year-old resident of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea. Addison was taken into custody and is currently being held without bond at the St. Lucie County Jail.

According to reports, Addison was the reckless driver who led FHP Trooper Zachary Fink, 26, to his untimely demise. The pursuit began early on Friday when Fink attempted to apprehend Addison, who had executed an illegal U-turn on Interstate 95 at Crosstown Parkway near Port St. Lucie, driving north in the southbound lanes. Tragically, during the pursuit, Fink’s vehicle collided with a semitrailer, causing the death of the semitruck driver. Fink, critically injured in the crash, was rushed to the hospital but tragically succumbed to his injuries.

Meanwhile, other FHP troopers and St. Lucie County deputies continued their pursuit of Addison. Ultimately, Addison crashed his vehicle into a tree approximately two miles off I-95 and attempted to flee. However, after an extensive four-hour search, law enforcement successfully apprehended him at around 8:06 a.m.

In light of the devastating incident, FHP has charged Addison with multiple serious offenses. These charges include two counts of vehicular homicide, two counts of felony homicide, felony homicide while resisting an officer with violence to his or her person, driving without a license causing death or serious injury, and aggravated fleeing to elude with serious injury or death. Additionally, the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office has levied charges against Addison for fleeing to elude police with lights/sirens activated and an out-of-county warrant related to aggravated battery in Broward.

The community mourns the loss of Trooper Zachary Fink, whose dedication to public safety cost him his life. This tragic event serves as a somber reminder of the dangers faced by law enforcement officers in the line of duty. As the investigation continues, the repercussions of Addison’s actions will undoubtedly reverberate throughout the legal system. The St. Lucie County community and the FHP family are left grappling with the profound loss caused by this devastating incident.
