Police say a man died after the car took off from a slippery overpass in Arlington.

ARLINGTON, TX (CBSDFW.COM) – Police said a 45-year-old man died after his car “blew into the air” off an overpass in Arlington on Monday evening.

At around 8:45 pm on January 30, police were called in connection with a one-vehicle accident on the east lanes of I-20, near the entrance to Green Oaks Boulevard.

When police arrived, witnesses stated that a black 1997 Toyota 4Runner “lost control” as it crossed the overpass.

Witnesses reportedly saw the 4Runner slide into the guardrail, take off into the air and roll off the embankment.

Police said the driver was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Investigators believe he was driving at “unsafe speeds” due to slippery road conditions and was not wearing a seat belt.
