DALLAS. An 11-year-old boy was killed in a shooting in North Dallas early Saturday morning, according to the Dallas Police Department.

Dallas police said Jacate Huntley, 30, was arrested in connection with the shooting.

Officers arrived at the 6400 block of Royal Lane at about 2:15 am on Saturday and found that the boy and woman had been shot dead. The 11-year-old boy died at the scene, while the woman was taken to hospital in a stable condition, authorities said.

The WFAA spoke to a local woman who works as a nanny nearby.

“I always say that the children should be safe… I always worry about them and say don’t go out without me,” shared a worried nanny.

Court records show that Huntley had already been jailed for offenses of assault and domestic violence in Denton County.

Huntley was incarcerated in the Dallas County Jail on a capital murder charge, police said. Based on prison records, Huntley’s bail had not been posted as of Saturday afternoon.

The investigation is ongoing.
