Police release body camera footage of Collins Avenue hit-and-run suspect who injured two people

MIAMI BEACH, Florida. (WSVN) — The suspect was arrested a month after the Jan. 5 attack on Collins Avenue.

7News has learned that one of the victims remains on life support more than a month later.

— Ramirez? the officer said.

Honey Ramirez is suspected of double hit and run, and that’s where her alleged escape officially ended.

“Yes?” Ramirez said.

“We were looking for you to investigate,” the officer said.

Miami Beach cops said they caught her in Doral, as seen in body camera footage obtained exclusively by 7News.

On January 5, a collision with innocent people occurred on the historic section of Collins Avenue, two of whom were hospitalized, and several cars were damaged.

“I just said, Jesus, please help me,” said Lena Chang, one of the victims.

7News was the first to interview one of the victims, a tourist from Chicago who was hit and seriously injured while walking with her husband.

“First time here, okay? First time in Miami, less than four hours, you know, it happens,” said Chen Chan, Lena’s husband.

The first series of accidents occurred near the Fontainebleau Hotel.

Around the 13th block north, a man was shot and was also taken to Jackson as a trauma alert, where police said he was in critical condition.

The driver sped away and was not immediately found.

But just a day later, Ramirez was detained.

“You’re under arrest right now by Miami Beach police,” the officer said.

“May I ask you how you knew I was here,” Ramirez said.

The apparently surprised suspect asked how the police knew where she was.

“How do you know my [exact] Location?” Ramirez said.

Soon she will be sent to a new place, to a prison.

“So now we’ll get up and you’ll talk to the detective, okay?” the officer said.

“Okay,” Ramirez said.

Shortly thereafter, Ramirez appeared before the judge.

“Ma’am, you are charged with leaving the scene of an accident with grievous bodily injury and reckless driving with grievous bodily injury,” the judge said.

Lena Chang returned home to Chicago, recovering. As for the suspect, she remains in jail.

The police told 7News that they found Ramirez through an investigation.
