Police identify suspect killed in Garland shooting

Garland (CBSNewsTexas.com) – The Garland Police Department on Tuesday identified a suspect involved in the attack. Officer shooting incident.

Police say Adrian Castillo, 32, of Garland, died as a result of injuries sustained in the shooting.

Around 5:30 p.m. on March 6, police said they attempted to stop traffic on South Jupiter Road and Russwin Drive. Castillo then led the officers on a short chase and entered a residential area.

Police say he stopped at the 3900 block of Glenhaven Drive, where he got out of the car and fired a pistol at the cops multiple times while they were still in their police car.

The officers then exited the vehicle and returned fire, hitting Castillo. The department says paramedics arrived at the scene and provided immediate assistance before taking Castillo to the hospital.

Officers who have served with the Garland Police Department for 3 and 4 years, respectively, will be placed on paid administrative leave in accordance with department policy.

This is still an ongoing investigation and detectives are urging anyone with information about the incident to report it.
