PHOTOS – Rescue dog stuck in tree after chasing squirrel: ‘Definitely not a cat’

On Wednesday, a dog in an unusual situation received much-needed help from an ambulance crew.

“Well, definitely not a cat in a tree,” the Caldwell Idaho Fire Department wrote in a social media post accompanied by photos of the dog looking down from its perch.

The department said firefighters and police responded to a call about a dog stuck in the branches of a tree and “after much persuasion, the dog was safely lowered to the ground.”

“Perhaps next time he won’t be so persistent in chasing squirrels,” the post reads.

One photo showed a fireman on a ladder helping a dog down, while another showed the dog enjoying a meal as he returned to the ground.

One social media user who turned out to be the owner of the dog explained in the comments that his name is Izzy and he is a pit bull/husky mix.

“He was the shorty in the litter. He didn’t learn his lesson. He was whining all morning trying to get out and catch this squirrel,” she wrote.

According to the Spruce Pets website, pit bull dogs are described as very determined and do not give up easily once they are given a task.

“And they usually love people, including strangers, and crave attention,” the website says.

Meanwhile, the Siberian Husky is described as having great stamina and great energy. They also can’t resist chasing small animals, so owners should provide them with a safe place to run, according to the American Kennel Club.

Social media users had a lot to say about Izzy’s climbing adventures. One person wrote: “I WANT THIS DUDE ON MY TEAM!!! Love commitment.”

“To catch a squirrel, you have to become a squirrel,” someone else commented, while another said, “He doesn’t give up that easily. Now he just needs to learn how to go down. Squirrels better move to another place.
