20-year-old killed during gathering in parking lot shooting

Police in Port St. Lucie, Florida are currently searching for a male suspect after a fatal shooting took place in the Gatline Commons Business Center’s parking lot on Wednesday night. According to reports, the incident occurred at around 6:57 p.m. local time, when authorities were called to Southwest Aledo Lane and Southwest Brigantine Place following reports of a shooting.

Police have stated that the victim, a 20-year-old man, and a female companion arrived in their vehicle to meet with two known individuals in a parking lot. The shooter is believed to have exited a 2017 Red Jeep Cherokee and entered the victim’s vehicle, before opening fire and fatally wounding the driver. The gunman then fled the area on foot as another suspect drove the Jeep Cherokee out of the area.

The woman in the victim’s vehicle was taken to a nearby hospital for a medical condition but police have confirmed that she is safe and well. Detectives and crime scene personnel are currently on the scene of the incident to investigate further.

Speaking to WPTV’s Joel Lopez at a briefing, Police Chief Richard Del Toro confirmed that authorities had conducted an extensive search in the area. He urged local residents to keep their doors locked, advising that there is no immediate threat to the area, but it is always best to remain cautious.

Police are now appealing to the public for their help in identifying the shooter or the red Jeep Cherokee used in the incident. Anyone with information is urged to call detectives at 772-871-5001.
