OSHA fined Mars Wrigley for falling into a vat of chocolate

Mars Wrigley was fined by federal health and safety authorities in connection with an incident last year in which two workers fell into a vat of chocolate.

A candy factory in central Pennsylvania now has to pay more than $14,500 for an accident that happened in June.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration cited Mars Wrigley in an accident at the M&M/Mars factory in Elizabethtown. The agency said the workers were not cleared to work in the tanks and were not trained in proper safety procedures for handling the equipment.

According to official figures, two workers outsourced dropped into a partially filled chocolate container during maintenance work. Rescuers arrived at the facility and were able to free the workers by making a hole in the bottom of the tank.
