Orlando celebrates Black History Month with many events

ORLANDO, Florida. – According to the city’s website, the city of Orlando is set to celebrate Black History Month with several events throughout February.

In a press release, the City announced that the celebration will include a reception to mark the opening of an art exhibition at City Hall’s Terrace Gallery.

The celebration officially began on Monday, when Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and city commissioners read the city’s proclamation officially designating February as Black History Month in Orlando.

“The city recognizes the historic contributions of black Americans and also recognizes that the fight for equal rights continues,” Dyer said.

On Wednesday from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm, the city’s Camping World Stadium will host an event celebrating the contributions and influence of black Americans in Central Florida.

Jasmine Burney-Clark, founder of the Equal Ground Education Fund and Action Fund, and Orlando Poet Laureate Sean Cheer, will be the keynote speaker at the event, according to the city’s website.

Wednesday’s celebration will also include live performances by local artists, music by DJ Dalastmo and delicious food, according to the city’s website. Free parking will be provided through Entrance E on South Tampa Avenue.

Later that month, the city will host the historic What’s Up Downtown Parramore Bus Trolley on February 23, running from 9:15 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and again from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., city officials said. announced.

The City of Orlando website says the tour will be conducted by tour creator Jennifer Campbell, art director and graphic designer for Dancing Fish Design.

The trolley ride will take place at the Wells’Built Museum of African American History and Culture.
