Operation Texas Strong donates refurbished vans to homeless veterans

Bobby Krutsinger and his wife, Peggy, purchase donated vans, fix them up, and work with social workers to find homeless veterans to donate the vehicles to once they meet certain criteria.

“They deserve so much more than I could give them. But when you give a veteran a home, it helps him rebuild his life,” Krutsinger said.

FOX 4 was on hand for the last transfer of US Army Specialist David Roberts, who served during the Gulf War.

“I was overseas in Iraq and Baghdad for a year at 04 and 05,” Roberts said.

For the past year, that is, until now, he has had no place to call home.

“I feel grateful that this is a little unrealistic. I don’t know how to describe it. It’s unrealistic, but I’m very grateful, I feel blessed,” added Roberts.

Crutsinger’s non-profit organization is called Operation Texas Strong.

Motivation also comes from his own family, as his father-in-law, a Vietnam War veteran, passed away four years ago.

His wife’s mom loves what they do.

“It just makes me proud. You know, I’m proud,” said Michelle Sorcic.

As for the van’s new owner, Roberts is excited about a fresh start.
