National Archives dismissed allegations of mishandling of Obama-Biden documents weeks before first batch was discovered

The National Archives dismissed the Obama-Biden administration’s reports of document mishandling as “false and misleading” just weeks before the first batch of classified documents was found at the Penn-Biden Center last fall.

The National Archives responded to questions about the documents on October 11, less than a month before the classified documents were discovered at the Biden think tank in Washington. It claimed that all of the Obama administration’s documents had been “securely moved” to locations that meet “strict archiving and security standards.”

“Reports that indicate or imply that these presidential records were in the possession of former presidents or their representatives after they left office, or that the records were stored in improper conditions, are false and misleading,” the National management of archives and documentation. NARA) wrote.

NARA did not respond to a request for comment on whether President Biden’s garage in Wilmington, Delaware, met “strict archiving and security standards.”

The Oct. 11 announcement comes just three weeks before Biden’s lawyers “unexpectedly discovered” classified documents at the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement, located in Washington, DC.

Later, White House lawyers will find additional documents hidden in the garage of Biden’s home in Wilmington. The White House says it has handed over all pending documents and is cooperating fully with the Justice Department’s investigation.

Last week, Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed a special counsel to investigate the case, bringing in former U.S. Attorney Robert Hare.

Republicans on Capitol Hill have demanded visitor logs from Biden’s home in Wilmington following this weekend’s revelations. However, the White House Counsel’s office stated that no such records exist.

“Like every president in decades of modern history, his private residence is private,” a White House adviser’s office told Fox News Digital Monday. “But upon taking office, President Biden restored the norm and tradition of keeping White House visitor logs, including publishing them regularly, after the previous administration abolished them.”

The U.S. Secret Service also said that while the details are secured to the house, they do not register visitors.

“We don’t keep visitation logs ourselves because this is a private residence,” USSS spokesman Anthony Guglielmi told reporters.

However, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer said he would “continue to seek” information about the documents despite the lack of a visitor’s log.

“President Biden promised to have the most transparent administration in history, but he refuses to be transparent when it matters most,” Comer told Fox News Digital. “The White House, the National Archives and the Department of Justice have withheld from Congress and the American people information about classified records found in insecure places since Joe Biden as vice president. The American people deserve transparency, not secrecy.”
