Missing monkeys entertain visitors again at Dallas Zoo, safety issues to be discussed

The warm weather and the holiday attracted crowds of people. Dallas Zoo on Monday the visitors were in for a surprise.

two emperor tamarin monkeys stolen three weeks ago returned to their habitat, entertaining visitors.

The couple have spent the last few days in quarantine as zoo officials closely monitor their health.

“They have regained the weight they lost and look very healthy and happy to be at home,” said Kari Streiber, vice president of marketing and communications for the Dallas Zoo.

Monday’s crowds were a welcome sight for the zoo after a number of crimes against wildlife.

Earlier this month, police arrested Davion Irwin and linked him to the stolen monkeys.

Dallas police said Irwin stole the monkeys, then jumped onto the DART tracks before leaving and leaving the monkeys in an abandoned house in Lancaster. One day, the arrested police connected Irwin with runaway leopard And vandalism of another monkey enclosure a few days ago at the Dallas Zoo.

Nevertheless the vulture’s death remains unsolved.

“We are still waiting for the results of the autopsy. We have brought in additional people who are doing some of the lab work,” Streiber said.

Dallas police said they are still actively investigating the incidents.

On Tuesday, the CEO of the Dallas Zoo will hold a briefing to city leaders that will focus on crime and the zoo’s response, including the safety changes they’ve made since each incident and those still in development.

Streiber said they are focusing on several upgrades, including additional lighting, cameras and the hiring of an outside security expert.

“To really help us look around the campus and make sure we’ve covered everything we can,” Streiber said. “There will be some changes. Some of them will be visible to the public, and some will not.”

For now, Streiber said they hope to use the spotlight as an opportunity to draw attention to their animals and their conservation efforts.

“It’s great when there are crowds. It’s great to connect with people and get positive from the month we’ve been through,” said Streiber.
