On June 13, 2024, in Toms River, NJ, Anthony Brown, a 20-year-old resident, faced charges of Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. These charges stem from an incident that occurred on June 12, 2024, within the confines of Toms River.

The events unfolded on June 12, 2024, around 11:30 p.m., when Officers from the Toms River Township Police Department responded to a residence on Adams Avenue following a report of a gunshot victim. Upon arrival, they encountered a 24-year-old male victim with a gunshot wound to his leg. Subsequently, the victim received medical treatment at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where he was promptly discharged after treatment.

A comprehensive investigation conducted by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit in collaboration with the Toms River Township Police Department unveiled that Brown had retrieved a handgun from the residence in question and fired two shots at the victim’s vehicle, ultimately injuring the victim. Post the incident, Brown absconded from the scene.

Shortly thereafter, law enforcement successfully apprehended Brown without any resistance at his residence. Following his arrest, Brown was transferred to the Ocean County Jail, where he remains in custody pending a detention hearing.

Prosecutor Billhimer extended commendations to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Toms River Township Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit for their collective and cohesive support throughout the investigative process.

It is essential to note that the charges leveled against Brown are merely allegations, and it is crucial for both the press and the public to remember that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law, as per R.P.C. 3.6(b)(6).
