Man accused of kidnapping missing Collin County woman allegedly used fake name, lied about being married

Newly released documents reveal a relationship between a missing Collin County woman and a suspect in her disappearance.

Kayla Kelly, 33, went missing on January 11.

According to the arrest warrant affidavit, Ocastor Ferguson and Kelly were in a relationship.

Authorities seek information on missing woman in Collins County

Police found Kelly’s burnt-out car on a back road in Frisco with no sign of Kelly. But they say they have proof that Ferguson was the last one with her, and they found some disturbing evidence in his car.

Kelly’s friends told Collin County deputies that she had a boyfriend at the time of her disappearance and was recently upset to learn he was married.

The suspect admitted to authorities that he used a false name when talking to Kelly, but did not say where she could be.

On Tuesday, investigators were spotted searching a field across from Kelly McKinney’s home. The couple continued to comb a nearby stream and then a densely wooded private road.

It’s not confirmed that investigators were looking for Kelly, but it’s still a mystery where she might be.

An arrest warrant obtained by FOX 4 on Tuesday reveals an illicit affair between Kelly and Ferguson right before her disappearance. According to investigators, she only recently found out that he was married. He didn’t even tell her his real name.

On January 11, Kelly’s friends and colleagues reported her disappearance to the Collin County Sheriff’s Office after not hearing from her for several days.

The next day, Frisco police found Kelly’s car on a deserted back road in Frisco.

According to investigators, the car “was burned beyond recognition, and the incident did not correspond to a natural fire.”

The deputies then went to the Kelly duplex in McKinney for a welfare check. Kelly was not at home, but her dog was. He had no food or water.

Detectives then reviewed Kelly’s phone records, pointing to conversations with Ferguson, who went by the name “Kevin Brown”. They later found his Lexus parked outside Kelly’s house.

And, according to court records, “the car was searched, inside were gloves, duct tape and a blanket.”

Toll records obtained by investigators show that Kelly’s car was driving north on the Dallas North Toll Road at 1:56 a.m. on January 10 near Eldorado Boulevard in Frisco.

Later that day, around 7:00 pm, Kelly’s phone pinged for the last time at Ferguson’s work in the Dallas area.

On January 13, investigators came to Ferguson’s office and spoke to him.

According to investigators, Ferguson “confessed that he knew Kelly, and the last time he saw her was on Tuesday, January 10, when she gave him a ride to work around noon.”

This statement was consistent with evidence obtained from mobile phone recordings.

Ferguson claimed that his car was at Kelly’s house because he hid it from his wife and allowed the police to look through his phone. There they saw a correspondence in which she threatened to tell his wife about the betrayal.

Investigators say Ferguson also admitted to lying to Kelly about his name ever since they started dating last summer to avoid getting caught.

Ferguson’s wife gave an interview. She said the detectives received a text message from an unknown number saying they needed to tell her something. She said she never answered. And when the detectives asked to see her phone, it was broken.

On Monday, FOX 4 visited the Grande Prairie home where Ferguson and his wife lived but received no response.

Ultimately, investigators gathered evidence that Ferguson was in the same area where Kelly’s burnt car was found, but he denied being in the area and did not tell them where Kelly was.

Ferguson was taken into custody and charged with kidnapping. His bail is set at $1 million.

FOX 4 also learned from open sources that Ferguson is not a US citizen. He is listed as a Jamaican citizen. However, it is unclear what his current US immigration status is.

According to Ferguson’s booking information, his only allowed visitor is his wife.
