Rene Fletcher was one of many people who said they were shocked to find the act of vandalism. Her mother is buried in the cemetery, and she does not understand how a person’s grave can be desecrated.

“It takes a sick person, I don’t care how old they are or how old they are to come to the cemetery and so on,” Fletcher told WBRZ-TV.

Mayor Gerard Landry hopes police will find the culprit soon.

“They’ve put together a report, I’m sure they’re looking at doorbells and security cameras from nearby areas, and hopefully they can find these guys,” Landry told the TV channel.

City Council members are already working to ensure that incidents like this don’t happen again in the future. Council member Laurie Lamm-Williams said in a statement that the solution could include installing cameras in the cemetery.
