LBJ High School football team adjusts training amidst scorching temperatures
AUSTIN, Texas – The anticipation is palpable among football enthusiasts as they eagerly await the return of Friday night football. Coaches are diligently preparing to lead their players back onto the field, ensuring their utmost readiness for the upcoming season.
Aware of the scorching summer temperatures, Joseph Rauls, head football coach at LBJ High School, emphasizes the importance of cautiousness and frequent breaks amidst the lingering heat. Rauls enlightens us on their proactive approach to combat the sweltering conditions, stating, “Things like making sure we hydrate ourselves, so you’ll see guys walking around with empty milk jugs basically filled with water.”
To minimize exposure to the elements, Coach Rauls discloses their strategy, “Things we try to do is make sure that anything we can get done inside that we get inside, and so basically we’re not exposed to the elements of outside.” Despite such precautions, the team is fully prepared for their training sessions on the field. Rauls confirms their meticulous arrangements, sharing, “Once we step outside, making sure that we have out stations where we have water available, we even set up tents and A/C units outside to basically keep our players cool.”
In light of the blazing Texas heat, Coach Rauls unveils their new practice schedule, which involves an earlier start time. The team’s workouts will commence promptly at 8:45 am and transition to field practice at 10 o’clock. Rauls emphasizes the significance of acclimating their student athletes to the weather conditions, revealing, “Make sure our student athletes get acclimated to the heat, so basically the week before we return to school, we’re going to move our practices to the evening.”
Undeterred by the challenges presented by the Texas heat wave, LBJ High School football team remains steadfast in their preparations for the forthcoming season. Their collaborative efforts, coupled with the astute guidance of Coach Rauls, instill confidence that they will be fully equipped to tackle their first game on August 24.
