Key Spring Planting Dates in North Texas

Temperatures have been relatively mild in North Texas lately, with many wondering when it’s safe to start spring planting.

The average date for the last frost in North Texas is March 12, but the last frost on record was April 13, so frosts can still occur in the spring. With that in mind, the first day of spring is March 20th.

If you plant before these dates, be sure to follow the forecast. If a late-season cold snap is coming, you can use landscaping fabric to cover newly planted flowers and plants or bring them inside during frost.

Recent rains have also begun to green the landscape of North Texas.

This warm trend looks set to continue. Long-range forecasts from the Climate Prediction Center call for warmer-than-usual temperatures for at least the next two weeks.
