Karine Jean-Pierre was asked about the timing of the release of classified documents in Biden’s office

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre refuses to explain why it took more than two months before news broke about classified documents found in President Joe Biden’s office.

During a press briefing on Wednesday, the reporter noted, “These documents were discovered on November 2nd. It didn’t become public until my colleagues at CBS News reported it on Monday. That’s over two months later.”

He asked, “Why was the public not informed while the White House was preparing its PR response for two months?”

“This is under consideration by the Ministry of Justice,” Jean-Pierre replied.

She added: “I am not going to go beyond what the president shared yesterday. I’m not going to go beyond what my colleagues from the White House Counsel have shared with you all.”

She also noted Biden said he did not know what the documents contained.

“So I can’t talk about the documents if he said he didn’t know what was in them,” the spokeswoman added.

Do you think the White House should have reported the discovery of the documents?

Elsewhere, Ed O’Keeffe of CBS News also asked why Biden or a White House spokesman did not inform the public about the discovery of the documents in November.

“Does it have something to do with the fact that there are only a few days left before the election?”

Jean-Pierre replied: “Again, Ed, this is under review by the Department of Justice. It’s literally under review right now. While I’m talking to you, it’s under consideration. So I’m not going to go beyond the process. I’m not going to go beyond what the president said.”

On Monday, it became known that the US Attorney was examining about 10 classified documents found in the office used by Biden.

Biden’s attorneys reportedly contacted the National Archives on November 2, 2022, after finding documents from when he was vice president in an office he used when he was a professor emeritus at the University of Pennsylvania. The documents were discovered less than a week before the election.

The documents were reportedly seized the next day.

The news came months after the FBI raided former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate and found classified documents.

Biden told reporters on Tuesday that he “was surprised to learn that any government documents had been delivered to this office.”

“But I don’t know what’s in the documents. My lawyers did not suggest that I ask what these documents were,” he added.
