Jean-Pierre Touts Amount Americans ‘Save’ per Month on Gas – Even as Prices Start to Tick Back Up

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre is trying to tout alleged savings Americans are seeing at the gas pump, despite the fact that prices are still higher than where they were a year ago.

During a press briefing on Tuesday, Jean-Pierre said, “Gas prices have fallen by $1.50 from their peak — which was not too long ago.”

She continued:

“The 98-consecutive-day decline this summer was the fastest in over a decade. Every month, the typical two driver family saves about $120 at the pump compared to where we were in mid-June. Every day Americans save about $420 Million at the pump compared to mid-June.”

She went on to tout the news that gas prices have dipped a little bit in recent days.

According to AAA, the average price for a regular gallon of gas nationally is $3.87, down from $3.92 a week ago.

However, that is still higher than the average of $3.67 a month ago, and $3.32 a year ago.

Do you think gas prices will hit $5 again?

Additionally, Jean-Pierre noted the average price for a gallon of gas in California has dropped about 30 cents in a week.

Congratulations Californians!

You’re still paying an average of $6 per gallon though. And that is up from $4.47 a year ago.

That also leaves out the fact that prices are probably going to see another jump once the OPEC+ production cut hits the market.

So yes, gas prices are not sky-high. But compared to the beginning of Biden’s term, Americans are not saving money on gas.

This is like stores gradually raising prices on products throughout the year and then touting their “sales” on Black Friday.

Yes, you’re paying less than a few months ago. But you are still paying a lot more per month than you were a year ago. So it’s hard to call that saving.

And Jean-Pierre’s comment is just in line with what has apparently become the Biden administration’s mantra heading into the midterms which is: Yeah, this sucks. But you know what, it is not as bad as it could be. So you’re welcome America! Now, don’t forget to vote Democrat in November!
