Waltz and Republicans in House of Representatives reject resolution condemning Buttigieg and saying he “should resign”

FIRST TIME ON FOX: Rep. Michael WaltzFlorida, is leading a House resolution condemning Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and calling for him to resign.

Waltz and several of his colleagues from the lower house of the Republican Party introduced the resolution on Tuesday. demanding Buttigieg’s resignation for his service record as cabinet secretary.

“Whether he is waiting a week to visit Eastern Palestine, holidaying in the wine country of Portugal during vital trade union negotiations, his extended absence during one of the biggest shipping crises we have experienced, or his failure to prevent massive stranded planes, Secretary of State Buttigieg demonstrated an inability to carry out the duties of his office,” Waltz told FOX News Digital.

“It’s time for him to retire,” the Florida Republican added.

The resolution, obtained by Fox News Digital, denounces Buttigieg for “failing to mitigate or respond effectively to multiple national crises” and that his “ineptitude has endangered the security and prosperity of the American people.”

Waltz was joined in the resolution by several of his GOP colleagues, including Representatives Lauren Bobert of Colorado, Ryan Zinke of Montana, Mike Collins of Georgia, and Greg Stube of Florida.

The lawmakers drew attention to several controversies in Buttigieg’s career as Secretary of Transportation, such as the fact that the secretary was “absent during a historic supply chain crisis when United States ports faced a record number of ships stranded off the coast of the United States,” and also “more than 15,000 flights were canceled under his leadership, making it the ‘worst and most costly single airline disruption in United States aviation history’.”

Waltz and the Republicans said that Buttigieg “neglected his duties and left the country for a holiday in the wine country of Portugal amid ongoing negotiations over an impending railroad strike, leaving Congress an opportunity to act to prevent an impending railroad strike.”

Lawmakers also slapped Buttigieg for a “preventable malfunction in the air mission notification system” on January 11, 2023, when “the Federal Aviation Administration was forced to implement the largest nationwide ground stop since the September 11, 2001 attacks.” as his half-hearted response to a train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio and a toxic chemical spill.

In addition, lawmakers accused Buttigieg of “repeatedly displaying a gross level of incompetence and apathy in his role as Secretary of Transportation” and “lost the confidence of the American people”, calling for him to “resign”.

The congressman told Fox News Digital that impeachment could not be ruled out unless Buttigieg resigned.
