Jacksonville Jaguars fall to Houston Texans, 13-6

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — It was tough sledding early on for both teams on offense. For the Jags, Travis Etienne Jr. had two nice runs of 18 and 30 yards early on, while Trevor Lawrence struggled to get into a groove through the air. Davis Mills hooked up with Nico Collins for a couple big plays early on for Houston, but the Jags would lead 3-0 after one quarter thanks to a 26-yard Riley Patterson field goal.

The Texans got on the board to start the second quarter after a nice 17-yard run by rookie Dameon Pierce. The former Florida Gator’s run set up a Ka’imi Fairbairn 50-yard field goal to tie the game at 3. Both teams would add another field goal in the second quarter making it a 6-6 game at halftime.

Jags Hall of Famer Tony Boselli was honored at halftime and given his Ring of Excellence.

Neither team was able to get much going in the third quarter. With the Jags threatening in the red zone on their opening drive of the second half, Trevor Lawrence threw an interception. The Texans took over and went 49 yards on an 8:10 drive only to have to punt the ball back to the Jags.

The Jags turned the ball over on downs after running back James Robinson got stuffed on fourth and one. Thanks to a Travon Walker unnecessary roughness penalty and a couple bruising Dameon Pierce runs the Texans then put together a long drive. Dameon Pierce would run it in from one yard out to put Houston ahead 13-6 with 3:11 left in the game. A late Jags drive stalled at midfield with just under two minutes left. The Jags got the ball back with :41 left at their own 13 yard line but Lawrence was picked off by Desmond King II to end the game.

The Texans won 13-6 to move to 1-3-1 on the season, while the Jags fell to 2-3. Jacksonville will hit the road to face the Indianapolis Colts next Sunday, October 16 at 1 p.m. ET.
