ISD in Dallas will reopen schools on Friday with a two-hour delay, other school districts remain closed

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) — Dallas ISD announced late Thursday that its schools would reopen on Friday, but with a two-hour delay.

This means that buses will run two hours later than usual.

Denton ISD also announced that its schools will start on Friday two hours later than usual.

But Fort Worth ISD, Arlington ISD, Irving ISD, Duncanville ISD and Mansfield ISD are among the counties that have announced their schools will be closed on Friday.

There are many factors to consider before school districts decide to reopen.

On Thursday at ISD in Dallas, Chief of Operations David Bates told CBS 11 that they had toured 250 school campuses inside and out, as well as about two dozen other neighborhood buildings.

Bates said: “We have some small pipes that have burst. Many of them were outside buildings or on the roof of the building, which we can eliminate right now. Nothing serious”.

He said a couple of campuses lost power, but Oncor said the lights would be back by 4:00 pm Thursday.

Bates said he credits the county’s dedicated staff and protocols for having small issues. “We’ve put in some preventative freeze protection measures and that’s why I think we’re seeing the results we’re seeing right now. We look pretty good with the kids coming back, except for things that are out of our control.”

Dallas ISD has advised that normal activities, programs and weekend events will be resuming.
