Indiana Soldier Shots Suspect While Detaining Drugs and Weapons

On Monday, an Indiana police officer shot and wounded a man in Indianapolis after he fled from soldiers tailing him as part of a gun and drug investigation, state police said.

The man was taken to the hospital in a stable condition and no officers were injured in the Monday morning shooting in the parking lot of an apartment complex, according to a state police sergeant. John Perrin.

The shooting occurred as three police officers were monitoring an investigation into a man with multiple warrants for gun and drug offenses, The Indianapolis Star reported.

Perrin said the soldiers confronted the suspect at the hotel, but he escaped on foot, got into a car and drove away before crashing into a nearby pond as the soldiers pursued him.

The suspect fled the pond on foot before one of the soldiers shot the man, he said.

Perrin said it was not immediately clear who fired their weapons first or how many rounds the soldiers had fired. The shooting is under investigation, he said.
