Ilhan Omar believes McCarthy’s departure from the subcommittee on Africa is “racist and xenophobic”.

In a new statement, Rep. Ilhan Omar now accuses Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy of being “racist” and “xenophobic” over her removal from the House Foreign Relations Committee.

Omar, a member of the Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health and Global Human Rights, defended her position in a tweet, saying she is “the only member born in Africa.”

“The non-participation of a single African in the African subcommittee is not only the elimination of a unique voice, but also the elimination of all voices that have never been heard in a committee on the continent,” Omar wrote.

She added: “It’s racism, xenophobia and discrimination.”

Omar echoed those remarks during an appearance Sunday on MSNBC’s Yasmine Vossogian Reports.

“I think that would be hypocrisy [sic] that he remove, you know, the first African from the subcommittee on Africa of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, where I had the opportunity not only to represent my constituents, but also the voice of many people who never had the right to vote on the Committee on Foreign Affairs, ”said Lobster.

Earlier, Omar called McCarthy’s decision a political ploy, a blow to the integrity of the democratic institution and a threat to national security.

McCarthy said he was firing Omar because she had upset many of her colleagues in the past with controversial anti-Israel statements that highlighted anti-Semitic clichés.

She once said, “It’s all about the Benjamins, baby” to explain why McCarthy criticized her for opposing the Jewish country. She also drew backlash for a remark comparing the US and Israel to Hamas and the Taliban.

McCarthy, as speaker, has the power to approve committee appointments proposed by Minority Leader Hakim Jeffreys.

Republican members can offer to vote to keep Omar on the committee, and at least two Republicans have expressed support for keeping her position.

Rep. Victoria Spartz, D-Ind., and Nancy Mays, D-South Carolina, said they opposed her removal from the committee.

A LONG HISTORY OF ILHAN OMAR’S SPORTS STATEMENTS

In addition to Omar, McCarthy rejected the appointment of Congressmen Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell, Democrats from California, to the House Intelligence Committee.

“Kevin McCarthy just kicked me and @RepSwalwell off the intelligence committee,” Schiff wrote on Tuesday. “This is petty political payback for the investigation against Donald Trump.”
