I-680 northbound from Sunol to Pleasanton to be closed for holiday weekend

Caltrans crews were once again preparing for a complete shutdown of the northbound lanes of Interstate 680 in the East Bay for the entire holiday weekend.

The full closure between Koopman Road in Sunol and Sunol Boulevard in Pleasanton will begin at 10:00 pm Friday and will last until 5:00 am Tuesday. During the closure, Caltrans crews will continue the freeway lane repair and upgrade project.

The work is part of a major redevelopment project for this section of northern I-680 to improve safety and provide a smoother ride for motorists. Part of the roadway has serious cracks and has fallen into disrepair.

Southbound lanes of I-680 will not be affected.

This weekend’s closure is the second of three planned closures. Weather permitting, another full closure will occur from 22:00 Feb. 24 to 5:00 Feb. 27. This closure will occur between Sunol Boulevard and Bernal Avenue in Pleasanton.

In the event of rain or unforeseen events, Caltrans will reschedule the closure and the public will be notified.

Regional bypasses will be activated to advise motorists traveling from the South Bay to take Interstate 880 on Route 238 to I-580 to reach Tri Valley and point east.
