Harker Heights officer shoots suspect after police chase

In the early hours of the morning, a Harker Heights police officer shot and killed a suspect after a police chase.

It began with traffic stopping around 1:00 a.m. at the intersection of the Indian Trail and East Veterans Memorial Blvd.

Police say preliminary investigation shows the suspect fled the stop and a police officer pursued him, but the suspect lost control of the vehicle near the Indian Trail and Beeline intersection.

Police say the suspect had a knife and approached the officer “in a threatening manner” before the officer fired his service weapon.

Police took life-saving action, but at 3:27 a.m., the suspect was pronounced dead.

The officer is on administrative leave, which is standard deadly force policy.

The Texas Rangers are investigating.
