George Soros predicts ‘Democratic collapse’ in 2024 if Trump and DeSantis ‘fail’

Leftist billionaire George Soros recently shared his hopes for the 2024 US presidential election and the conditions he believes will lead to a “democratic landslide.”

Speaking Thursday at the Munich Security Conference, Soros said Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is likely to challenge former President Donald Trump for the Republican nomination and win. He hopes Trump, hurt by his ego, will launch a third-party presidential campaign that will split the GOP vote and give the Democrats another four years in the White House.

“I hope Trump and Florida Governor DeSantis compete for the Republican nomination in 2024,” Soros said.

“Trump has become a pitiful figure constantly mourning his loss in 2020. Major Republican sponsors are ditching it en masse,” he continued.

Calling DeSantis “sharp, ruthless and ambitious,” Soros predicted that the Florida governor would become the Republican presidential nominee.

“This could encourage Trump, whose narcissism has turned into a disease, to run as a third-party candidate. This will lead to a landslide of the Democrats and force the Republican Party to reform,” Soros said wistfully. “But maybe I might just be a little biased.”

The race for the 2024 Republican nomination has begun, and this week former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley joined Trump as the declared nominee. DeSantis is expected to announce his own presidential campaign in the spring or early summer, once the current session of the Florida Legislature concludes.

Polls consistently show Trump and DeSantis as the top two Republican nominees. A Quinnipiac University poll released Thursday showed Trump leading DeSantis by 42% to 36% in the hypothetical matchup.

In that poll, Haley scored just 5%, while former Vice President Mike Pence and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo each got 4%. No other candidate received more than 2% support.
