Fort Worth Police to provide water bottles to Ohio residents affected by train derailment

The Fort Worth Police Department is doing its part to help those affected by the tragedy in Ohio.

Officers send supplies and bottled water to residents of East Palestine, Ohio, where about 50 wagons of a freight train have derailed in a fiery, mangled mess near the Pennsylvania state line, apparently due to a mechanical problem with the wagon axle. Nobody was hurt in that accident.

However, concerns about air quality and dangerous chemicals on the train prompted some villagers to abandon the train, and officials later ordered the evacuation of surrounding areas as concerns grew over a possible explosion from smoldering debris.

The Midwest Food Bank assisted the department in collecting over 40,000 bottles of clean fresh water with officers hitting the road with a water truck Saturday morning.

“The most important thing is to fill the need that needs to be met,” said Buddy Calzada, public affairs officer for the Fort Worth Police Department. “That’s what your Fort Worth cops do.

The department will provide updates on travel to Ohio on social media.
