Fort Worth PD thanks the public for helping them identify and find a suspect in a serial armed robbery

Fort Worth police said it received several leads last week on the identity of a man suspected of several armed robberies and more information on where he might be staying.

On Saturday, SWAT units were called in and he was taken into custody along with his older brother.

The cross stands on the border of Fort Worth and Saginaw, symbolizing a terrible day at Sunny’s Market on North Main Street.

Footage from the store on January 2 shows the shooter, who police believe was 18-year-old Donovin Copeland, shot and killed a small dog named Peanuts behind the counter before holding the clerk at gunpoint.

Investigators said Copeland demanded cash and also took the victim’s car.

On Sunday, Sunny’s Market employees said they were still shaken, but were relieved to report that Copeland is in jail.

“Donovin would have continued his criminal activities until he was caught,” said Buddy Calzada of the Fort Worth Police Department.

On Saturday, Fort Worth police and SWAT units were monitoring an apartment on Vega Drive in the southwestern part of the city.

The detectives got a tip that Copeland might be nearby.

“The most helpful advice was received on Saturday morning. It was solid advice. We want to thank our community,” Calzada said.

Investigators observed the 18-year-old and his 21-year-old brother Billy leaving the apartment and getting into the car.

The police quickly took the brothers into custody.

The police reportedly recovered a gun from Billy and charged him with illegal possession of a firearm by a criminal and harboring a fugitive.

After a search of the apartment, the police also said they had seized the rifle.

“The gun that was found in the possession of Billy, who is Donovin’s brother, was seized and stolen during one of the robberies that Donovin was involved in,” Calzada explained.

It is unclear if his older brother lived in the apartment or if the brothers were staying with someone else.

Just 24 hours before police made the two arrests, Fort Worth robbery detectives turned to the public for help finding Copeland at a press conference.

“He is one of the most dangerous and violent young men I have come across, and I have been robbing for 12 years,” the Fort Worth Police Department said. Brian Rainsford said.

Copeland now faces four counts of aggravated robbery.

Fort Worth police said the 18-year-old was involved in at least four armed robberies in December.

Police said that in a string of robberies, each time someone was shot at or hit with a gun.

In addition, the police stated that all of the victim’s vehicles were stolen and later found at various locations in Fort Worth.

According to police, Copeland’s last target was a Valero gas station on Longhorn Road.

The clerk showed FOX 4, where Copeland is believed to have fired one shot through the mouthpiece.

Police said Copeland fled with money and an employee’s car.

The police believe they have a culprit after weeks of criminal confusion as Copeland and his brother are locked up.
