Fort Worth ends curfew for teens

The City of Fort Worth’s teen curfew ordinance expires Monday.

At this time, children under the age of 17 cannot be outside alone from 23:00 to 06:00 Sunday to Thursday or from midnight to 06:00 on Fridays and Saturdays.

The ordinance has been in effect since 1994, but state law requires the council to review and vote on it every three years.

Mayor Matty Parker said the city will not renew the existing ordinance due to a bill that has been submitted to the Texas Legislature.

Senate Bill 603 would remove the city’s right to enact or enforce curfews for children.

Parker said the bill received bipartisan support.

She said Fort Worth will continue to work with lawmakers on the issue.
