Exclusive: Virginia AG Jason Miyares hopes to unseat left-wing prosecutors nationwide

Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares (R) is pursuing left-wing prosecutors who “really see themselves as social workers” in the 2023 election cycle.

Miyares joined Breitbart News on Saturday, telling host Matthew Boyle that his efforts, the Protect Americans Action Fund, would change the paradigm of what conservatives think about local prosecutors.

“Frankly, conservatives are kind of sleeping on the switch,” said the Virginia Republican. “You’ve got these big left-wing special interest groups who have figured out, ‘Hey, we don’t need to change change laws, we don’t necessarily need to win governors’ mansions or state legislatures, we can win these local prosecutors, these district attorney races.’ .

“I say that these are the most important elections that people rarely pay attention to,” he concluded.

Listen:

“They don’t need to change the laws in their state capital, they just decide not to enforce entire categories of laws,” Miyares explained. “So you see in places like New York and others, they will announce entire categories of the penal code that they will no longer enforce. An officer can arrest someone for breaking the law, but if you have a prosecutor drop the charges immediately, you are essentially legalizing car theft in some cases.”

“When you have a ‘perpetrator first, victim later’ mentality, it leads to a huge explosion of violent crime,” he continued. “You have officers who don’t even bother to accuse people of certain crimes because they know they don’t have any backing.”

Calling the left-wing ideology of prosecuting crimes an “academic theory”, the Old Dominion lawyer explained how destructive crime is to society, beyond the consequences of the crime itself.

“What upsets me is that a lot of people can point to this and say, ‘Hey, you know, poverty can lead to more crime,’ but crime can also lead to poverty,” he said. “Two thirds of all new jobs created in America are created by small business owners, they are not located in high crime areas.”

Small business owners are closing their doors because theft has actually been legalized in many parts of the country.

Miyares founded the Defend Americans Action Fund as part of a counter to the huge amount of money that left-wing groups and people like George Soros were pouring into the prosecution race.

“The idea is: you have the Republican Governors Association, you have the Republican Attorneys General Association, you have Congressional and Senate campaign committees, and so you don’t have an organization to help these prosecutor races, where will you be if these left-wing groups come. “They’ll lose $200,000 in the last two weeks in the race and that’ll dwarf any expenses a DA candidate might raise and they’ll just overwhelm them and they’ll sometimes win suburban seats that went to Trump,” he said .

These leftist prosecutors will then eventually run their offices in a catch-and-release program.

“Our goal of the Action Fund to Protect Americans is to provide these people with pro-law enforcement resources so they can stand up to these far-left forces that are trying to push through some really radical anti-cop and anti-sacrificial policies right now. an agenda that hurts too many Americans across the country,” Miyares explained.

Saying the election has consequences, Miyares said “public safety just wasn’t a priority when you had a left-wing monopoly in Richmond under the previous governor.”

Describing some examples in Virginia, Miyares said there were “many very far-left prosecutors” in the Northern Virginia region who “failed in their first duty, which is protecting the public” when he, Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin (right), and Lt. Governor Winsome Earl-Sears (right) ran for office in 2021.

He explained that the murder rate was the highest in 20 years.

“In Fairfax, you have a very infamous leftist prosecutor who, as you know, when you have the perpetrator and the victim second, he makes the deal,” he said. “You had a horrific case of a child rapist, a five year old was raped within a year and the perpetrator was entitled to a life sentence. AND [the prosecutor] thought it was too hard for a child abuser, and so his life sentence was reduced without consulting the victims, and he would be eligible for parole.”

“In a community in Northern Virginia, a man was released from bail on charges of domestic violence,” he continued. “Essentially, he was released and he immediately attacked and killed his victim with the hammer he had just taunted.”

“When you know that the person chasing you will be on the street again, what incentive will you have to go to the police and try to arrest this person when he just comes back as soon as he processes the application? paperwork?” he asked rhetorically.

“If you want to reduce crime, you go after repeat offenders,” he concluded. “And you need prosecutors who understand that, not prosecutors who decide they’re going to push things like get rid of cash bail, have a revolving door.”
